Not just a figure in a logo.
But a living legacy.
A man who played with fire, lived with courage, and left an impact far deeper than baseball.
From the Diamond to the Fight of His Life
Chris was one of the most talented and versatile players to ever wear an NC State uniform. From 1994–1997 he pitched, played outfield, and anchored first base — whatever the team needed, he delivered.
Drafted twice:
14th round (Texas Rangers)
5th round (Pittsburgh Pirates)
He chose to return to NC State after his junior year, leading the Wolfpack to their longest ACC win streak ever (13 games) under Elliott Avent.
His numbers still speak for themselves:
5th all-time in career home runs (42)
10th all-time in career RBIs (159)
Second Team All-ACC in 1997
After pro ball, Chris gave back for 14 years as Associate Director of the Wolfpack Club. In 2019, NC State established a $400,000 scholarship endowment in his honor.
Diagnosed. Determined. Unbroken.
In 2016, at age 38, Chris was diagnosed with ALS.
Most people would have withdrawn.
Chris chose to fight.
He and his wife Gena launched Team Chris Combs — raising over $4 million for ALS research.
ALS took his speech.
It took his movement.
But it never touched his spirit.
“ALS may have stripped him of his functional skills, but it never defeated his spirit.”
— Coach Elliott Avent
Chris passed away on September 3, 2020, at age 45, surrounded by his loving family:
Gena, Anne Marie, Ava, Christopher, Francis, Debbie, and Ryan.
The Spirit of Holistic Hitting
That silhouette in our logo?
It’s not just a swing.
It’s a message.
It stands for:
Resilience.
Courage.
Presence under pressure.
Showing up when it’s hard.
Playing bigger than the moment.
That’s who Chris was.
And that’s what Holistic Hitting is built on.
Play with heart. Fight through adversity. Leave it all on the field.
Join the Movement
When you train with Holistic Hitting, you’re not just improving your swing.
Chris’s number #26 is permanently honored on the outfield wall at NC State.
And his spirit lives in every cut we take.
Holistic Hitting isn’t just training.
It’s a mindset.
It’s a mission.
It’s a tribute.
In memory of Chris Combs — teammate, warrior, friend.
